Bedlington Terriers game on Saturday saw the first penalty shoot out for the Friends of Gallagher Park trophy. The competition was organised by Northumbria Police as part of the ‘Not in My Neighbourhood’ campaign and was hailed a huge success in its inaugural year.
Three children from Whitley Memorial First School and three from Bedlington Station First School went head to head in the final, which was held at half time of the Esh Winning match. With Terriers ‘keeper Kevin Morton facing the kicks, it was Whitley Memorial who came out on top thanks to some clinical finishing. Lifting the cup, which was presented by George Webster (chairman of Friends of Gallagher Park), was Jack Bell. Each player took home a medal, two tickets to Bedlingtons eagerly anticipated Spennymoor FA Vase match and some Terriers prizes donated by the club.
Lining up for the schools were: Whitley Memorial – Jack Bell, Abbie Dodds, Joshua Wilson. Bedlington Station – Codie Smith, John Waddingham, Adam Packer.
The competition was the idea of Northumbria Police and Bedlington Terriers were delighted to be invited to help out and marks the start of efforts to establish links throughout the local community and it is hoped that events such as this will become a regular feature at home matches.
Bedlington Terriers would like to thank everyone who helped to organise this event, in particular PC Stephen McIntosh, PC Neil Nevens and CSO Jen Sweeney.
